John King


John is a highly experienced Chartered Surveyor with in excess of 35 years post-qualification construction experience in a wide range of public sector projects. In addition:

John won the “Robert Irwin Barr” prize in 1975 as the ‘candidate with highest marks in Scotland in RICS Part II exam’. John became a ‘Fellow’ of the RICS in 1989

John qualified as a CDM Coordinator in 1998 and brings his knowledge and experience in this field to projects

Having passed the RICS adjudication exam John is a member of the Adjudication Society and has been a member of the Chairman of the RICS in Scotland Panel of Adjudicators since 1999, with his appointment being re-affirmed in 2003 and 2011.

John is now providing these ‘added value’ services, along with project management and expert witness, to his clients.

John has a wide ranging contractual experience encompassing projects for local authority, central government and private sector clients. He previously worked as a Senior QS in the development of Glenrothes (new town) and as a Partner with C.R. Douglas & Co.

John has completed various housing studies e.g. - ‘Scottish Pilot Land Assembly’ for Scottish Homes, ‘Living over the Shops’ for Fife Council/Kingdom HA and has spoken at seminars for both Chartered Institute of Housing and CIEF on ‘Sustainable and Green Issues in Housing’. He has also worked with the Scottish/Danish International Partnership on housing and served on both Fife Council’s ‘HECA Forum’ and ‘Renewable Energy Working Group’. He has also recently presented for Health Facilities Scotland (HFS) on ‘CDM Regulations’ and ‘Cost Implications for BREEAM for Healthcare’.

In addition, John was author of the ‘Contract Templates’, including conditions and working agreements etc, based on the use of PPC(S) 2000 form of contract, for the ‘Larach Alliance’ – a Scottish Government initiative where six of Scotland’s leading Housing Associations collaborated with four selected contractors to drive forward improvements and efficiencies in the procurement and construction process of up to 1,000 homes with an investment in excess of £80 million. He provided advice to the Working Group and spoke on the ‘Initiative’ at various seminars.

John is a Regional Director with David Adamson & Partners with whom he is currently working as Project Manager on a new £10m MSCP with retail & office facility at Plymouth and a £19m hotel project at Aberdeen.

In his spare time John’s interests include travel, hill walking and sport – playing golf and watching football and ice hockey – and his family.
